Beach readings

Thanks to a 4-day weekend and a dismal social life, I FINALLY re-opened my dejected copy of The Girl Who Played with Fire on Sunday. A few hours later I was engrossed. So tied up in the Swedish murder mystery that I even shunned the latest episode of Housewives of New Jersey (the horror!). I read until my little eyes could barely stand it- and drifted off to sleep with the book on my chest. (Poor hubby is slowly realizing what a nerd I really am.)

Enter this morning when all I could think of was the fate of Lisbeth Salander. I'd finally gotten past all the introductions of characters and background stories and was able to get to the real plot. As soon as the clock struck noon I was out the door. I've often longed for a spot of my own.. a reading nook that I could inhabit during lunch and eat my leftovers. So as I drove around Gulfport, I realized that the pier created the perfect place for this. Plenty of parking spots- so I wouldn't look like a total creeper- and it was close enough to the office for me to push my time limit. As I re-surfaced my speed reading skills (told you.. nerd), I discovered my secret reading place isn't so secret after all.  Either I have 4 stalkers or other people like to spend their lunch break in their car reading as well.

So  mission accomplished. I now have a place to retreat to when I need the outdoors, but just can't find the outdoor french cafes I so desire.

Next step- actually sit outside and be social. Baby steps people.
